Surprada is a visionary residential complex nestled in the heart of the Swiss Alps. Located in Flims Waldhaus, this project reinterprets classic alpine architecture with a contemporary touch, offering residents a harmonious connection with nature.
The striking metallic façade of the building blends perfectly with the traditional wooden balconies; the latter frames panoramic views of the Flims valley and the surrounding peaks. Designed on a sloped site, the building has been oriented to maximize the views and integrate seamlessly with its environment.
The interiors, an extension of the architectural concept, embody a philosophy of “total design concept.” AW² combines warm wood and raw concrete with industrial accents, such as black gunmetal finishes, to create a modern and soothing atmosphere. Neutral tones and a soft colour palette run throughout the spaces, harmoniously blending local stylistic elements with a contemporary aesthetic.
Each of the eight custom-designed apartments offers open spaces, a functional kitchen, and spacious living areas, complemented by wood stoves and generous terraces. Surprada provides a complete alpine experience, with privileged access to hiking and biking trails, ski slopes, as well as the luxurious amenities of the nearby Waldhaus Flims Wellness Resort.
The project also includes innovative facilities, such as a dedicated space for storing and maintaining outdoor equipment, a bike room, and the “Athletic and Climbing Loft,” featuring state-of-the-art facilities for mountain enthusiasts. These features cater to the active lifestyles of the residents and foster the spirit of alpine adventure.
At the heart of Surprada, special attention has been given to sustainability and harmony with the environment. The design reduces ecological impact by efficiently using resources and integrating with the natural landscape. Spacious terraces and strategic openings encourage natural light and ventilation, reducing energy consumption while creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
Surprada is the result of a collaborative effort between renowned design and engineering professionals, including specialists in lighting, structural engineering, and fire safety. This multidisciplinary approach ensures that every element of the complex aligns with AW²’s vision, creating living spaces that blend art, functionality, and comfort.
